With so many types of liposuction available, the best way to make a decision about what is right for your needs is to know the facts.
During tumescent liposuction the patient remains awake, under only a local anesthetic. Tumescent liposuction poses a lower risk when compared to traditional liposuction, which is done under general anesthesia, and patients experience less bleeding, swelling and pain after the procedure.
Cannulas are long, thin tubes that are inserted into the body for removal of fat and fluids during liposuction. Tumescent Liposuction uses microcannulas (only 3mm in size) that can offer superior and more refined results than traditional liposuction, which is performed with larger cannulas (6 – 8mm in size).
These larger cannulas often produce wavy, irregular results whereas the micro-cannulas leave the skin smoother. Not to mention, since tumescent lipo is performed while the patient is awake, the surgeon can ask patients to tense their muscles to provide a hard muscle surface that can be used to isolate the fat, making it easier to remove evenly.
In fact, better positioning allows better removal and accurate contouring, according to Dr. Thomas Su at Tampa’s Artistic Liposculpting Center.
While some surgeons may advertise that they use the latest technology, like lasers, ultrasound and aqua lipo to assist with the fat removal, these newer technologies still have not proven their effectiveness. Tumescent liposuction alone, is still the gold standard.
However, the most important feature of a successful body transformation is finding the best surgeon. At Art Lipo Dr. Su, an experienced artist and surgeon who specializes in tumescent lipo, is passionate about body sculpting and the happiness of every patient.
Dr. Thomas Su, is the owner and cosmetic surgeon of Artistic Lipo. He has led our full-time clinic specializing in awake-only liposuction since 2007.
