If you’re arranging to have lipo of the arms, you’re probably excited about showing off the results. It’s no wonder, then, that so many patients arrange a vacation after their procedures. They are keen to wear swimsuits and sleeveless tops they have never been able to wear before. After all, this is their first chance to show the world their beautiful new bodies. However, before you book your first vacation, there are three things you need to know.
Remember You’ll Need to Wear Compression Garments
When you have liposuction on your arms, you’ll receive a compression garment you will need to wear post-surgery. This garment helps to speed healing and boost recovery. It will help to reduce the swelling that occurs after you have liposuction on your arms. You will need to wear it as advised by your surgeon. Often, this will be for a period of up to six weeks. For some of this time, you will need to wear the garment both day and night. This is something you’ll need to bear in mind when booking your vacation. If you arrange to go on a trip just one week after your procedure, you’ll still be wearing your garment. This may make it difficult to enjoy your vacation, especially if you’ve booked a trip to a beach resort.
Bear in Mind You Shouldn’t Go Swimming at First
Immediately after having any kind of liposuction, you shouldn’t go swimming. If you get into a pool too soon after your surgery, you could get an infection. You must wait until the incisions in your arms have fully healed before swimming. It’s also important to take it slowly concerning exercise. You need to avoid any strenuous arm exercises until your surgeon gives you the green light. This means you should exercise caution if you’re planning a vacation. Swimming and going into a pool or the sea is a major part of many people’s vacation plans. Therefore, you may want to wait for at least a month after surgery before going on your trip.
Flying Is Not Advisable
Not every patient should fly after liposuction. If you fly too soon after your surgery, you could develop DVT (deep vein thrombosis). You may also suffer from swelling in your ankles and feet if you fly too soon after having lipo. Short flights will probably not cause a problem after 24 to 48 hours or so. However, longer flights could be more problematic. Therefore, it’s wise to avoid flying internationally for at least a couple of weeks after surgery. Your surgeon will be able to give you advice based on your circumstances.
